The owners had recently purchased this two storey townhouse in Ascot Park, Adelaide and begun a new chapter in their lives. But they were not expecting a problematic bathroom which put a bit of a dampener on their lifestyle - literally. Every time they had a shower, the water from the upstairs bathroom leaked into the kitchen ceiling. The home was only four years old but was already showing signs of permanent structural and celling damage.
The bathroom had been renovated only a couple of years prior but had not been waterproofed according to Australian standards of building practise. Unfortunately, water leaked through the bathroom floor to the kitchen ceiling causing damp, mould and structural damage. It was an unplanned expense for the new owners who only realised the problem after they moved in.
They called Ken Hall Plumbers for advice and to repair the leaks. We identified the source of the problem quickly and provided a quote, but with the extent of the damage already done, it made more sense to fully renovate the bathroom. The couple were planning to live in this home for several years.
The customer’s criteria
The owners wanted a modern and luxury feel, within their budget, especially since this was an unforeseen expense. We had an initial consultation with the client in their home to discuss the design and function of the bathroom.
We provide an end to end service from design to install. After browsing through images of tapware, vanities and bathroom accessories, we set about putting together the scope of works, with layout, design and fixtures. We replaced the old bathroom completely, placing the shower, vanity and bathtub in the same positions which saved money on further plumbing costs.
Sometimes unforeseen problems can arise in any building project. When we lifted the old tiles off the floor, the leaking water had extensively damaged the flooring underneath so the entire sub floor had to be replaced.
