The original bathroom and laundry were limited in space mainly because of the configuration of the room. The layout didn’t provide enough bench and storage space or room to move around easily. The home was built with solid brick walls, which can incur higher costs in renovation fees. However we were mindful of the allocated budget and suggested ways to renovate the bathroom and laundry without additional and unnecessary costs.
Ken Hall were one of three bathroom renovation companies the family called for a quote.

We visited the couple in their home for an initial consultation and discussed the renovation process in detail. We reviewed their budget and how to best use their funds, and agreed to a time frame for the project. They felt well informed and comfortable with the way their project would be managed.
The customer’s criteria
The owners wanted to keep the footprint and walls of the bathroom and laundry, with the space reconfigured to make it useful. The bathroom needed a bathtub big enough for adults and children, a vanity and shower, and the laundry needed storage and bench space.

The products
In the bathroom
Floating vanity – we suggested a floating vanity for an extra sense of space which is ideal for smaller bathrooms.
Mirrored cabinet – we installed a matching mirrored cabinet above the vanity for storage. As this was a solid brick home, a niched cabinet was not viable as the brickwork was too soft to cut into and would have required replacing.
Floor to ceiling wall tiles – the owners opted for a simple large white tile with a chevron design for the main wall as a feature.
Charcoal-coloured floor tiles – a plain charcoal tile was chosen for the floors, contrasting well with the white walls.
Walk-in shower – with a smaller space to work with, we designed the shower as a walk-in with one side opening to a dry zone.
Bathtub – we installed a new bathtub in the same dimensions, with a swivel tap to move out of the way of little heads!
Dual flushing toilet – a simple wall-mounted toilet was installed with a soft close lid and dual flushing capabilities for water savings.
In the laundry
The existing hot water service was located inside the laundry taking up space that was ideal for storage cupboards and benches.
We removed the hot water service and installed an instantaneous gas water heater system and used this area to install a much needed broom and linen cupboard. We carried the same theme from the bathroom to the laundry - the same floor tile, same feature tile for the splashback and a similar timber laminate for the overhead cabinets we used with the bathroom vanity.
